Two more people have died of dengue in Noakhali and Mymensingh.
In Noakhali, Amir Hossain, 60, resident of Dattapara union under Chandraganj police station in Lakshmipur, died while undergoing treatment at Noakhali General Hospital around 6am on Sunday.
Noakhali General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Syed Mahiuddin Abdul Azim said: “Amir had been suffering from fever for seven days. He arrived at his ancestral home in Lakshmipur from Dhaka on Saturday afternoon (Aug 10).”
“He was first admitted to Begumganj Health Complex as his condition deteriorated in the evening. He was then transferred to our hospital around at 1am, where he died around 6am,” he said.
“We also tested Amir's blood sample for dengue and the results came out positive,” the medical officer added.
With this, two people have so far died of dengue in the district.
In Mymensingh, a college boy, Farhad, 20, lost the battle of his life to dengue at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital around 11:30am on Sunday.
Deputy Director of the hospital Dr Laxmi Narayan Majumder said that Farhad was admitted to the hospital on Aug 10.
“He died due to multiple organ failure following dengue infection,” Dr Laxmi said, adding that 201 dengue patients are currently admitted to the hospital.
Some 2,176 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data.
The total number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals across Bangladesh is 9,420, it said.
The DGHS said that a total of 29 people have died of dengue fever across Bangladesh from Jan 1 till Aug 10.
However, the unofficial death toll has reached 76.
As many as 38,844 people have been infected with the dengue so far in 2019 since January 1.
