Many Red Crescent volunteers are working at the Suhrawardy Hospital. Some are delivering reports, others are helping in the Dengue testing, while several are engaged in taking patients to the rightward.
From supporting doctors to helping in the pathology department, Red Crescent members are easing the work pressure.
At the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, six persons are working in one shift; there are 4 persons at BSMMU in two shifts and six persons in two shifts at the Holy Family hospital.
One such person is Ali Ahmed, who has given his HSC exam and has been working with Red Crescent for two years.
“I work to help people and the feeling cannot be eclipsed by anything else; every day, I get a new experience which I enjoy.”
It becomes clear, how people are helpless when they come to the hospital, he said while delivering reports.
Hospital director, Professor Uttam Kumar Barua, adds: “this team has been working at the hospital from 2 August; one has to admire the way the young people are working and their presence has helped us immensely.”
A Red Crescent member said that he had worked with others from 8 am till 8 pm in two shifts. The first shift has ten persons working from 8 am till 2 pm while six persons work in the second from 2 pm till 8 pm.
“The gratitude expressed by the patients and relatives fills us with a sense of fulfilment and the feeling is too powerful to define in words.”
Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, brigadier general, A K M Nasir Uddin, adds: “I am impressed to see young people working with us; we marvel at their dedication to their responsibilities; they deserve to be saluted.”
