The depression over the coast of India had intensified into deep depression leading to heavy rain accompanied by temporary gusty wind in several parts of Bangladesh including Dhaka.

The met office weather bulletin says that the rain is likely to prevail in the coastal areas of India and Bangladesh as long as the pressure persists.

“It’s the seasonal deep depression that’s causing the deep depression,” Meteorologist Arif Hossain told Bangla Tribune.

He added that the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla And Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no three.

According to the bulletin on Thursday (Aug 8) the monsoon the depression over coastal Odisha-West Bengal and adjoining areas that moved west-northwestwards now lies over Jharkhand and adjoining area at India as a monsoonland depression.

“It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction further and weaken gradually. under its influence steep pressure gradient persists over north bay and adjoining coastal areas and deep convection is taking place over north bay,” the bulletin read.

It predicts squally weather to affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

The river ports at Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to flag cautionary signal 2.
