FR Tower FireCourt asks probe report to be submitted by Sep 11

PHOTO/BANGLA TRIBUNEA court on Sunday (Aug 4) has set Sep 11 for submitting the probe report in a case filed in connection with the deadly fire that broke out at F R Tower in Banani of Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikari set the fresh date as Jalal Uddin, case investigation officer of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, failed to submit the report on Sunday, said the court police’s General Recording Officer SI Sheikh Rakibur Rahman

A total of 26 people were killed and 73 others were injured in the fire that quickly engulfed the 22-storey building on Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Banani on March 28.

Banani Police Box in-charge Sub-inspector Milton Dutta filed the case on Mar 30 with Banani police station.

The accused in the case are Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the owners of FR Tower, SMHI Faruque, the landowner, and Liyakat Ali Khan Mukul, chairman of Rupayon Group, the company that built the high-rise.

They are also accused of collusion in causing loss of lives, severe injuries, and damage to property in the fire caused by severe negligence.
