Police have been given five days in custody to grill the key suspect in the lynching of 42-year-old Taslima Begum Renu in the capital’s Badda.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim gave the order on Wednesday (Jul 24) after investigating officer Abdul Malek sought 10 days, court’s General Registration Officer SI Likat Ali told Bangla Tribune.
Earlier in the day, police said that during interrogation, Hridoy, a grocer, disclosed named of seven to eight perpetrators who were involved in the lynching.
Police arrested 19-year-old Hridoy from Bhulta area in Narayanganj on Tuesday.
According to the police, Hridoy is a vegetable vendor and used to live in Hazipara area in North Badda.
Renu, a single mother of two, was brutally beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of being a child abductor, in front of North Badda Government Primary School on the morning of Jul 20.
Hridoy was seen beating Renu brutally in the video which surfaced on social media platforms right after the incident.
Later, the victim’s family started a case over the death accusing 400 to 500 unidentified people.
Another court on Monday, placed the other three accused in the case, Bachchu Miah, Shahin and Bappi, on a four-day remand.
