Sumon accused of creating communal trouble, case filed

Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque SumonA case has been lodged against Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon who rose to prominence through petitioning several public interest lawsuits and his vigorous social media presence.

On Monday (Jul 22), Goutam Kumar Edbor, filed a case under the Digital Security Act against Sumon for spreading hate speech on social media on Jul 19. The plaintiff alleged that Sumon's remarks were derogatory and insulting against the Hindu community which demand strict action.

The case was filed on Monday at Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein's court. Applicant's lawyer Sumon Kumar Roy confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.

Sumon's speech on religious minorities could cause a religious stir in Bangladesh, the lawyer added.

Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon is a social activist, who is also a prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunals.
