FR Tower flaw: Ex-RAJUK officials told to surrender

File Photo/Sazzad HossainThe High Court directed former building inspector of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakkha (RAJUK) Aurangzeb Siddique and assistant authorized officer Nazrul Islam to surrender before a lower court in six weeks in a corruption case filed for the design forgery of Banani’s FR Tower.

The court also granted a six-week anticipatory bail to the former RAJUK Chairman KAM Harun in this case.

The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam gave the order on Tuesday (Jul 16).

Advocate AM Amin Uddin moved for the defendants while Khurshid Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Deputy Attorney General KM Amin Uddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Helana Begum stood for the state.

On Mar 28, a fire that broke out at the 22-story commercial building FR Tower in the upscale Banani area, killed 27 people and injured more than 70 people.

The draft watchdog filed a case against 23 people including the owner of the building and two former chairman of RAJUK for design forgery in the construction of FR Tower.

ACC Deputy Commissioner Abu Bakkar Siddique filed the case at its Segunbagica offices in Dhaka.

The defendants filed a bail plea in the case and on Jul 16, court completed the hearing in the case.
