Dhaka South Mayor Syed Khokon visited the dengue patient who served him with a legal notice demanding Tk 5 million in compensation for failure to eradicate Aedes mosquitos.
The mayor visited the patient, Sadekun Nahar at her home in Khilgaon on Saturday (Jul 13).
On Thursday (Jul 11), her husband Supreme Court lawyer Tanzim Al Islam served the legal notice to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on behalf of her.
According to Tanzim, the Mayor reached his house at 11:30 am with fruits and spoke to his wife.
“Dengue outbreak has gone up significantly compared to the last few years,” Khokon said while speaking to the media after the visit.
He added that the authorities were on the alert and working to tackle the dengue outbreak and called on the citizens to remain conscious of their surroundings.
Saying that the legal notice was a matter of the judiciary, Khokon said, “As a mayor it was my moral obligation to stand beside that citizen.”
Meanwhile, Advocate Tanzim said, “The notice for Tk 5 million shouldn’t be seen as just a demand for compensation but an expression of protest.”
