Journalist Muhammad Jahangir dies

Muhammad JahangirNoted media personality and journalist, Muhammad Jahangir passed away on Wednesday (Jul 10).
Muhammad Jahangir breathed his last around 12.40am while being treated at a hospital in Dhaka.

He had been suffering from cancer.

“My father was put on life support around 11am on Monday (Jul 8) and breathed his last around 12.40am on Wednesday,” said Muhammad Jahangir’s son Apurba Jahangir.

He will be taken to his Shantinagar residence at 8am, added Apurba.

Former student of Dhaka University, Jahangir wrote and edited 25 books, mostly on media and journalism, according to the official website of Nrityanchal Dance Company.

A teacher of media and communication at two universities in Dhaka, he was closely connected with the TV channels of Bangladesh as a planner and programme presenter on politics and current national and international issues.

Jahangir, younger brother of Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, was a member of the executive committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), Bangladesh chapter and also a member of the Theater Drama group.

He was a coordinator of Nrityanchal Dance Company and was the host of the first live television talk show “Abhimat” on Bangladesh Television.
