ACC to charge ex-Counselor of mission in Canada for embezzlement

Anti Corruption Commission BangladeshThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge sheet against former Counselor of Bangladesh High Commission in Canada Maksud Khan.
The approval came on Thursday (Jul 4), and the charge sheet is expected to be submitted to the court soon.
The case filed in December 2017 with the police accuses Khan of embezzling over Tk 25 million.
According to the case documents Maksud siphoned off the money, equivalent to about 415,000 Canadian dollars, from government funds allocated for Machine Readable Passport (MRP) project.
There are also further allegations that Maksud, who was also the Personal Secretary (PS) to the then-foreign minister Dipu Moni, allegedly took money from many expatriate Bangladeshis promising them help to resolve their MRP-related issues.
