A general view of the Supreme Court building of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court (HC) does not like extrajudicial killings, said one of its benches while making an observation on the ‘shootout’ of Nayan Bond, who was killed in a ‘shootout’ with law enforcers in Tuesday (Jul 2).
Nayan was one of the key suspects in the broad daylight killing of Rifat Sharif in Barguna.
“People like Nayan Bond wasn’t killed in one day. Someone bred them, made them into criminals,” the bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and KM Kamrul Kader said on Thursday (Jul 4).
Their remarks came after Deputy Attorney General Barrister Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar submitted a police report on Rifat’s murder with the bench.
The report stated that nine suspects have been arrested over the murder and when police lead a raid to catch one of the suspects they fired on the police who were forced to retaliate.
It added that once the shooting stopped, the police identified Nayan’s body.
On Jun 26, Rifat was hacked in front of his wife on the road in front of Barguna College. At this time, Rifat’s Wife Ayesha Siddika, Minni tried desperately to stop the killers but failed.
The crime happened in front of hundreds of people though no one intervened to save him.
On Jun 27, the HC ordered a progress report on the case and told the police to issue a red alert on the borders so that the killers cannot escape.
