Rickshaws will remain banned on three key roads in capital Dhaka from next week.
The Pragati Sharani Road from Kuril to Sayedabad via Rampura and Khilgaon, Mirpur Road from Gabtoli to Azimpur via Asad Gate and New Elephant Road from Science Laboratory intersection to Shahbagh intersection will be off limits to the three-wheeler manual vehicle from Sunday (Jul 7).
Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon made the announcement on Wednesday (Jul 3) after a meeting of a special committee formed at the South city corporation offices.
The move has been taken to free footpaths in the capital from encroachers and remove unauthorized vehicles from the streets in a bid to improve the traffic situation in Dhaka, he said.
On Jun 19, Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader announced the special committee, led by Mayor Khokon, at the 12th board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA).
