A Dhaka court has sent suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman to jail over a graft case.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayes gave the order on Tuesday (Jul 2) after rejecting his bail plea.Shahbag police produced Mizan in the court earlier on Tuesday morning amidst heavy security after being arrested on Monday (Jul 1) and the hearing concluded at 12:28.
The suspended police officer filed for anticipatory bail on the charges pressed by graft watchdog Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday (Jun 30) which was scrapped.
On Jun 24, the ACC filed the case against Mizan on charges of amassing over Tk 30 million beyond his known source of income.Mizan has recently alleged that ACC’s enquiry officer Khandaker Enamul Basir, who was suspended later, took Tk 4 million bribe with a false promise of exonerating him of all charges.
The police official came under the scanner in January last year when he was accused of forcibly marrying and torturing a woman. He was soon withdrawn from his post as the additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
