The police have arrested three people over the murder of an Uber driver who found with his throat slit at Dhaka’s Uttara.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Sizan, 20, Sharif, 19 and Sajib, 20, on Saturday (Jun 29) night, Addition DB Commissioner Abdul Baten told the media on Sunday (Jun 30).
According to Baten, the arrestees are professional car hijackers and the police seized two switchblades from them after the arrest.
Forty-two-year-old Uber driver Arman was found dead with his throat slit inside his car at Uttara’s Sector 14 on Jul 16.“An unknown man wanted a Toyota Allion car and offered Tk8 lakh to Sizan, prompting his plan to hijack a car,” said the commissioner and added that he along with his two associates bought two switchblades from New Market on June 13.
“They called an Uber from Rampura and kept on cancelling and asking for new rides for five times until they found an Allion car,” he said.
“The hijackers asked the car to stop at a quiet place in road 16 of Uttara and waited for 20 minutes without paying.
“At around 12:37 am, Sharif grabbed Arman by his hair, pulled him back and slit his throat.”
He said that the hijackers fled, leaving the car and the dead body when they saw that circumstances were not in their favour.
