Legal officers of the Supreme Court who were appointed as deputy and assistant attorneys general before 2017 have been asked to tender their resignations by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
The attorney general told the media that 33 deputy attorney generals and 54 assistant attorney generals – all appointed to their posts before 2017 – have been asked to submit their resignation within 4pm Thursday. He said he had already received several resignations.
The attorney general’s office has a total of 67 deputy attorney generals and 106 assistant attorney generals.
The instruction from the attorney general’s office came a day after Anisul Huq, minister of law, justice and parliamentary affairs, remarked that many attorney generals had been asked to resign after their contracts expired, but he had yet to receive any letters of resignation.
