Banani rape case hearing on Jul 25

Representational imageA Dhaka court has set Jul 25 for hearing in a case filed over the alleged rape of two private university students in Hotel The Raintree at Dhaka's Banani area in 2017.
Dhaka’s 7th Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Khadem Ul Kayes set the date after the defence finished quizzing on Tuesday (Jun 25).
Police produced prime accused Safat Ahmed and Naim Ashraf in the court while Safat’s friend Sadman Sakif, bodyguard Rahmat Ali, and driver Billal Hossain, who are out on bail, also appeared before the court for the hearing.
On Mar 28, 2017, Safat, son of Apan Jewelers owner Dildar Ahmed, and his friends allegedly raped the two girls after bringing them to the hotel for a birthday party.
On May 6, 2017, one of the victims filed the case with Banani police.
On Jun 8, 2017, Police pressed charges against five including Safat in the case while a court framed charges on Jul 13, 2017.
