Former Sonagazi police station OC Moazzem Hossain has pleaded to a Dhaka court for first-class division status in line with the jail code.
On Thursday (Jun 20), his counsel submitted a petition with the Cyber Tribunal in Dhaka.
The court fixed Jun 24 for hearing on the matter, said the tribunal’s bench assistant Shamim-Al-Mamun.
The petition argued that Moazzem should be entitled to the privilege considering him as a first-class citizen as he received facilities as per the ninth grade of the national pay scale.
On Monday, the same court sent him to jail after turning down bail in a case filed for recording a video of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s statement and spreading it online.
The court also fixed Jun 30 for hearing on charge-farming against the police officer in the case.
Moazzem was arrested on Jun 16, after a warrant was issued in a case filed against him under the Digital Security Act on May 27, a day after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted its probe report over the incident.
