A group of unidentified people, claiming themselves to be former MP Md Mockbul Hossain’s aide, barged into the offices of Bangla Tribune, a leading online news website in Bangladesh.
Bangla Tribune authorities filed a general diary with the capital’s Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police after the incident took at the news outlet’s office at FR Tower in Panthapath on Saturday (Jun 15).
“Six people including a woman came and said they wanted to meet the editor. When they were informed that the editor is not in the office they went to Bangla Tribune office without the visitor’s pass,” said Akhil Chandra, one of the security guards posted at the entrance of FR Tower.
Bangla Tribune staffers said that six people entered into the office without the visitor pass.
“They then wanted to meet the person, who is in-charge in absence of the editor and identified themselves as former lawmaker Mockbul’s men as well as City University officials.
“When asked what they specifically want to discuss they replied that ex-MP Mockbul would talk about it over the telephone.”
After Bangla Tribune staffers informed the person in charge was in a meeting, they left.
Following the incident, Alamgir Hossain, assistant manager of Bangla Tribune, filed a GD.
“Action would be taken after investigation,” said on-duty officer SI Abdur Rashid of Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police.
Recently, Bangla Tribune and its sister concern Dhaka Tribune released the “Private University Ranking-2019,” enlisting the country’s top 20 private universities, in which Mockbul-owned City University couldn’t make it.

Mockbul is the founder of City University and chairman of its board of trustees, according to the university website.
