A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court has issued a rule asking the government why they should not be ordered to formulate a compensation scheme for rehabilitation of rape victims.
The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the rule on Tuesday (Jun 11) hearing a writ petition filed by rights body Children's Charity Bangladesh Foundation.
The court also asked the authorities concerned why they should not be directed to give Tk 5 million each to the families of Shahinur Akhter Tania and Sumaiya Akhter who were raped before murdered.
Tania from Kishoreganj died after being gang-raped on May 8 while Sumaiya Akhter killed herself on May 17 after being gang-raped in Rajshahi.
As many as 12 people concerned, including secretaries to the home and law ministries, were made respondent in the rule and ordered to come up with explanations by four weeks.
