Khandaker Enamul Bachhir

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended its director Khandaker Enamul Basir for leaking probe report to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman, who faced an allegation of amassing illegal wealth.
“The suspension order against him comes as a disciplinary action for disclosing probe report,” ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood told reporters at the anti-graft agency's headquarters in Dhaka on Monday (Jun 10).
The order came a day after DIG Mizanur, on Sunday, made an allegation to the media that ACC director, Enamul Basir, accepted Tk 4 million in bribe in two phases in exchange of information.
The ACC initiated a probe into the wealth of DIG Mizanur after he was relieved of duties last year as he faced an allegation of torturing a woman.
Enamul Basir was one of the ACC probe team that investigates the DIG’s wealth.

The watchdog chief said a three-member committee has already been formed to probe the allegation raised against the ACC director.

The committee comprised of ACC Secretary Mohammad Delwar Bakth (convener), and its directors general Md Mofizul Islam Bhuiyan (legal) and Sayeed Mahbub Khan (admin).

The committee has already submitted its probe report. After scrutinizing the report, the ACC suspended its director Khandaker Enamul Basir for allegedly leaking out information of a probe and violating official discipline.

“Enamul has been withdrawn from the inquiry into the allegation of accumulating illegal wealth by DIG Mizanur Rahman. A committee was formed to probe the allegation raised against Enamul. But, Enamul told the committee that he did not take bribe,” the ACC chief said.

Replying to a question, he said the recorded conversations between DIG Mizanur Rahman and Enamul will be sent to the authorities concerned for forensic test to know its accuracy.
