The immigration police who allowed the Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot to clear immigration without showing his passport has been suspended.
SI Kamruzzaman was suspended on Saturday (Jun 8) for allowing Captain Fazal Mahmud to fly to Qatar without the passport, Additional Special Superintendent of Immigration police Md Ismail Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
“The immigration employee had asked Captain Fazal Mahmud for the passport but he said that the passport was in his bag,” he said.
He added that immigration employee SI Kamruzzaman, who was on duty, let him pass after seeing the pilot’s General Declaration copy.
“As he is a senior pilot and travels frequently, the immigration police believed him,” Hossain said.
Saying that both the pilot and the immigration employee are equally responsible for the fiasco, he added, that after suspending Kamruzzaman they submitted a report over the incident.
On Wednesday (Jun 5), Captain Fazal Mahmud was held back at Qatar for not having his passport on him.
He was supposed to fly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was on a tri-nation visit in the Boeing-787 Dreamliner.
Biman authorities later arranged for his passport to be sent to Doha through a Regent Airways flight.
