Biman pilot for PM’s return flight stuck at Qatar

Biman Bangladesh AirlinesThe Biman Bangladesh pilot who was on his way to bring back Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been held back at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar for not carrying his passport.

Biman authorities have arranged for his passport to be sent to Doha in order to bring him back, several employees of the airlines confirmed on Thursday (Jun 6).

Captain Fazal Mahmud flew the Boeing-787 from to Qatar to bring back the PM, who is on an international visit to three countries.

Biman’s acting chief Captain Jamil Ahmed was unavailable for comments over the phone.

The immigration police were unable to provide any details on how he was allowed to cross immigration without the passport.

“The pilot forgot his passport. It will be probed how he crossed immigration without it,” said Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Muhibul Hoque.

His passport was sent to Qatar through a Regent Airways flight at 7pm with the secretary's letter.

“There are a few international rules pilots have to follow while travelling,” Biman Director (administration) Ziauddin Ahmed told Bangla Tribune.

Although pilots travel to different parts of the world, sometimes they are not allowed to enter certain countries.

According to the Civil Aviation Organisation the pilots have to travel with a copy of the general declaration along with their passports.
