Incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia is not allowed to convey Eid greetings to the country people, say people familiar with the matter.
The party chief’s media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan told Bangla Tribune that seven of Khaleda’s relatives visited her at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Wednesday (Jun 5) on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“There is no scope for an imprisoned person to convey any official greetings,” said Mahabubul Islam, jailor of Dhaka Central Jail.
BSMMU Director ABM Mahbubul Alam said that there isn’t any scope for her to convey official greetings unless there is some written permission from the authorities.
The former prime minister, who is serving a 17-year term for her involvement in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft, has been undergoing treatment at BSMMU from April of this year.
Khaleda was the sole inmate the old jail house in Old Dhaka’s Nazimuddin Road. However, according to a government notification she will be shifted to the new central jail at Kashempur.
