Road accidents in three districts have left 18 people killed and at least 20 others injured on Sunday (Jun 2).In Sirajganj, eight people were killed and 10 others were injured when a bus and four-wheeler passenger vehicle, locally known as ‘leguna’, crashed into each other.
The crash was reported from the Bogura-Nagarbari highway at the district’s Ullapara upazila), said local Shahjadpur OC Abdul Quader Zilani.
“A Pabna Express bus collided with the Hatikumrul-bound leguna, killing eight people on the spot and injuring 10,” he said.
He added that 10 people have been taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and Shakhwat Memorial Hospital from the scene.In the northeastern district of Sunamganj, six people died when a bus rammed a ‘leguna’ at Dakshin Sunamganj upazila.
The accident left 5 passengers of the human hauler dead along with the driver of the vehicle, said local police OC Harun ur Rashid.
In the southern district of Bagerhat, a six-year-old died girl after being hit by a car.
The incident was reported on the Khulna-Mawa Highway at the district’s Fakirhat Upazila.
Local highway police’s Sub-Inspector Moloyendra Nath said that a Bagerhat-bound car hit the girl before speeding away from the scene.
The critically injured girl was rushed to the Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, where she was declared dead on arrival.
