Maldivian model Raudha Athif, who studied at a private medical college in Rajshahi killed herself when she found her boyfriend was cheating on her, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said in its final report.
On Wednesday (May 29), investigating officer, PBI Sub-Inspector Saidur Rahman filed the report, which ruled out homicide, with a court in Rajshahi.
Evidences pointed death by suicide and it was due to her ‘utter despair’ over the breakup with her boyfriend, said Rahman before adding, “The last call she received on her phone was from her boy friend Shahi Ghani and the last message she sent to him read, ‘You killed me ... I feel dead ... There’s nothing left.”
Twenty-year-old Raudha, who was featured as a Maldivian model in a Vogue magazine cover in 2016, was a second year student at Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi. She was found dead at her college dormitory room on Mar 29, 2017.
After Raudha’s death, her father Mohammad Athif filed a murder case on Apr 10 accusing her classmate. The case was investigated by local police, Detective Branch and Criminal Investigation Department who came up with a final report suggesting her suicide.
Her father rejected the reports and submitted a no-confidence petition with a Rajshahi court. Following the court order, PBI had been investigating the case since Dec 23, 2017.
