Circular air conditioned bus service has started its operation in Uttara.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon inaugurated the service at Rabindra Sarani in a program, jointly arranged by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday (May 27).
Ten buses will cover all the avenues and sectors of Uttara, and run on two separate circular routes. Buses on one of the routes are coloured green, and another one is coloured red.
The route for red buses starts from Alaol Avenue, and ends at Uttara passport office, having 12 stoppages on both sides of the road.
Whereas, the route for green buses starts from airport station, and ends up at Uttara sector one, with 19 stoppages in between on both sides of the road.
The minimum fare starts at Tk 20 and it reaches up to the maximum of Tk 30.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon said: “Safe and disciplined transportation in Dhaka needs the citizen to be conscious. If they are not conscious enough no bus service will be a fruitful one.”
He urged the authorities to be concerned about keeping the footpaths clean, and place proper signs, including bus stoppage signs, on the roads.
DNCC Mayor, Atiqul Islam, said: “There is no alternative to public transport for making Dhaka a livable city. The bus services will continue, and all lagunas will be abolished from the seven avenues of Uttara, along with unauthorized human haulers.
“If footpaths are cleaned, and pedestrians can properly walk on them, the buses can run smoothly on the free roads.”
The inauguration program was moderated by DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam, while DSCC mayor was the chief guest.
Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan, chairman of BRTC, Mofizuddin Ahmed, additional commissioner (Traffic) of DMP, Rakibur Rahman chief executive of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority, and chief executive officers of DSCC and DNCC, also delivered speeches in the program.
