Bangladesh Police has ruled out the involvement of Middle East-based militant group Islamic State (IS) in the bombing of a patrol car in capital Dhaka late on Sunday (May 26).
“The matter is still being probed, even though the IS has claimed responsibility but investigations are yet to suggest it,” Additional Inspector General Md Sohel Rana of the headquarters said on Monday (May 27).
A fire started after a blast in a pickup truck parked under the Malibagh flyover leaving Assistant Sub-Inspector Rasheda Aktar, a rickshaw-puller and a pedestrian injured.
Hours after the attack, which left a policewoman and two others injured, terror activity monitor SITE Intelligence Group said that the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said that the crude bomb that exploded was more powerful than normal handmade devices.
“It was a cocktail, but improvised. It was more powerful than normal cocktails … We believe that it was planted in the car,” he said.
