Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)The appointment of medical officer to BSMMU is mired in complications. The authority has published a list of 729 persons who succeeded in the preliminary round exam held one and a half months ago. However, those who were left out from the list have agitated and are preparing to lodge a writ at court.

BSMMU sources says that after changing dates several times, the test to appoint medical officers was held on 22 March. For 200 posts, 8551 doctors appeared for the exam, which makes 43 examinees competing for each post.

As per the notice, 180 MBBS doctors and 20 BDS doctors will be appointed. Though the exam result was supposed to be published two days after the exam, it came out on 12 May last. The delay triggered agitation, siege of the VC’s office and students who have been linked to various work of the university demanded appointed on an ad hoc basis.

However, the university authority said that appointment will be based on merit and after written test and viva.

Now those who did not make the list of 729 are on the streets, demanding cancellation of the exam.

An influential teacher of BSMMU, says: a list based on merit has been published; initially 729 persons have passed who will appear for viva.”

There are some who have made the list and have also succeeded in the civil service, BCS exams, said the doctor and added: “in such cases, the candidate with double success will keep only one job, leaving the other.”

Meanwhile agitating students refused to talk to the media.
