‘IS appoints Bangladeshi as chief for Indian subcontinent’

Sri Lankan intelligence agencies, aided by the US and India, have informed its Bangladeshi counterpart that it believes a Bangladesh national has made the ‘emir’ of South Asia, according to diplomatic sources.
The revelation came when Islamic State claimed that it had established a “province” in India.
The Lankan government along with intelligence agencies of other countries has intensified their effort to combat the global menace in the backdrop of terror attack in Colombo on April 21.
“The Lankan authorities conveyed the information to Dhaka last week and they sought help to nab Abu Mohammed Al Bengali,” said a diplomatic source.
“Abu Mohammed was appointed after the Apr 21 attack and his name was revealed when different agencies worked together after series bombings,” she said.
The Sri Lankan authorities in collaboration with the intelligence agencies of different countries have intensified their activities after the terrorist attacks in Colombo where several suicide bombers killed 253 people and injured hundred others. A Bangladeshi child was also killed in that attack.
After the attack the Lankan government has strengthen security and intelligence service to combat the terrorists, said another diplomatic source.
“Actions have already been taken to prevent radical preachers and manage cyber space to shut down extremist contents and penalize such service providers,” she said.
National education and community engagement are the other two steps taken by the Lankan government to uproot and contain terrorism from the society, she added.
Meanwhile, police sources in Dhaka said, 11 Bangladeshi workers who worked in the copper factory of Inshaf Ibrahim, one of the suicide bombers in Sri Lanka attack, have been released as they found them innocent.
