Chairman of safe roads campaign and actor Ilias Kanchan, said: “As per the targets of UN, the number of road accidents will have to be halved by 2020 and unless this is achieved, development of the government will never succeed.”
He made the comment on Friday (May 10), in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, during the observance of the 5th International Safe Road week through a human chain.
“We have one life to live and losing it in a road accident cannot be accepted.”
At the human chain, he said: “We will follow rules on the road and be aware that we do not lose our lives or become invalid due to carelessness on the road.”
Addressing the people, he said: “If you are taking the bus, ask the helper to lock the door and please protest if you see any irregularity.”
“If we can raise awareness about safety laws and inspire people to adhere to rules then we will be able to bring down accidents within 2020.”
