Schools with zero success rate in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams this year will face action.
No students in 107 institutions cleared this year’s school-leaving exams, according to the results published on Monday.
The number of institutions was 109 last year where all the examinees failed the exams.
Officials said that these institutions will served with show cause notices and gradually their inclusion in the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme will be withheld followed by cancelling their registrations.
As many as 59 institutions under the Madrasa Board and 43 under Technical Education Board had zero success rates in the exams.
“The boards have been instructed to take action in line with the regulations and to update the ministry,” Md Alamgir, secretary to the Madrasa and Technical Education Division, told Bangla Tribune.
Madrasa Board Chairman AKM Sayef Ulla said that initially the institutions will be show caused and as the next step they would recommend rescinding of the MPO facility.
“Before cancelling registrations, the institutions will be given a chance to defend themselves,” he told Bangla Tribune.
The Technical Education Board, however, says the number of institutions with zero success rate under them will be lower than 43.
“The number will be less as scores of practical exams were not taken into calculation in case of many students,” it Exam Controller Sushil Kumar Paul said before adding measure will be taken against institutions where no students passed.
The schools which registered 100 percent failure rate this year include two from Barishal, one each from Dinajpur, Rajshahi and Jashore.
“We have already issued show cause notices for the two institutions and measures will be taken according to the regulations,” Barishal Board Chairman Mohammad Younus said.
There were no such institutions under Dhaka, Cumilla, Chattogram and Sylhet education boards.
