Three people have been killed in “gunfights” in Dhaka, Rangpur, and Munshiganj.
The incidents occurred early on Tuesday.
In Dhaka, a suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the 300 Feet Road area of Khilkhet.
The deceased has yet to be identified.
Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) of RAB 1, Md Kamruzzaman said: “Acting on a tip-off, our patrol team went to the area to conduct a drive.
“Noticing the drug traders’ suspicious behavior, we tried to search their bodies.”
He said: “The drug traders opened fire at us. In retaliation, the team fired back.”
The ASP added: “One of them was rescued in an injured condition and sent to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”
His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Morgue for autopsy, he added.
“We are trying to identify him,” the RAB official said adding that the deceased was carrying a pistol, bullets, and around 2,000 yaba pills with him.
In Rangpur, a suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Purbo Isali area under Gangachara upazila.
The deceased, Shahidul Islam Sumon, was the son of Moheshwar Ali of Rudreshwar village under Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
Members of the Gangachara police station arrested Sumon and, based on his information, went on a drive with him to recover weapons.
Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) of Rangpur police station, Saifur Rahman said: “Upon reaching the spot, his associates opened fire on us, forcing us to strike back.
“Sumon was shot dead in the gunfight and five members of the police were injured; they have been admitted to hospital.”
Police recovered Sumon’s bullet-riddled body and sent it to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
He was carrying a gun and 22 pieces of yaba pills with him.
The ASP added: “Sumon had ten cases filed against him, including for rape and drugs.”
In Munshiganj, a suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” with RAB in Ramsingh area.
The deceased, Md Sujon Mia, 36, was son of Md Mosharraf Hossain of Rikabi bazaar area under Bashtola in Gabindanagar.
Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) of RAB 11, Enayet Mannan said: “Upon seeing us, Sujon and his associates started firing at the elite force members. RAB fired back in self-defence.
“Sujon was shot during the incident. He was rescued and sent to Munshiganj General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police Constable Mohsin was also injured.”
A pistol, bullets, and 1,050 yaba pills were recovered from the spot.
Sujon was accused in 11 drug cases.
