Residents of Dhaka are expected to see heavy rains and cloudy weather throughout Saturday due to cyclone ‘Fani’, says the Met office.
“Heavy rainfall will occur in the city while the sky will remain overcast,” Arif Hossain of the Bangladesh Metrological Department told news agency UNB.
The weather office, meanwhile, recorded 70 mm of rains during the last 24 hours till 12 pm on Saturday.
Cyclone Fani, moving further north-northeastwards from Dhaka-Faridpur region, has weakened and turned into a land deep depression, a special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
Mongla and Payra maritime ports, Chattogram port, and Cox's Bazar have been advised to lower danger signal no 7, danger signal no 6, and danger signal no 4, respectively, and hoist local cautionary signal no 3, instead.
The cyclonic storm was located over Pabna, Tangail and Mymensingh and adjoining regions, around 12pm on Saturday. It will move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland, cross Sylhet, and finally move towards Meghalaya region in India, leaving Bangladesh.
The storm will turn into a land minor depression while leaving Bangladesh, it said.
