The committee responsible for investigating the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi has recommended strict action against four police officers and a district administration employee in their probe report.
The committee chief, Deputy Inspector General of police headquarters SM Ruhul Amin submitted the report on Tuesday (Apr 30).
The report found Feni police Superintendent Jahangir Alam Sarker, now withdrawn Shonagazi police OC Moazzem Hossain, two other police officers and one district administration employee negligent in their duty.
“We carried out the probe without any pressure. We haven’t left out any names that were found involved in the case,” DIG Ruhul Amin told Bangla Tribune.
On Apr 12, a Human Rights Commission committee lodged a probe report holding the police and administration responsible for the murder.
It said that the arson attack on Nusrat could’ve been avoided if the madrasa committee and the local administration had taken her complaints of sexual harassment against former madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula seriously.
Nusrat, a student of Shonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa was set on fire on Apr 6 for refusing to withdraw sexual assault charges against Siraj.
She died on Apr 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit after battling extensive burn injuries for five days.
Her brother filed a case on Apr 8 accusing eight people over the attack. The case was handed over to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Apr 10 after her death.
The PBI arrested 23 people in connection to the murder and 10 have already confessed to carrying out the attack at the behest of Siraj.
