Bangladesh-origin wins provincial election in Canada

Doly BegumBangladesh-origin Doly Begum has won a provincial election in Canada by defeating Gary Ellis, who served as an elected member of the Ontario parliament for the last 15 years.
She got nomination from New Democratic Party, which has a proud history of fighting for ordinary Canadians and delivering results.
Doly Begum had a commanding lead in the election, held Thursday, over her nearest rival, with 19,751 votes to 13,592.
According to media report, she came to Canada as a child with her parents and younger brother and has lived in Scarborough in Ontario most of her life.
Begum, who was the chief coordinator of the province-wide Keep Hydro Public campaign, served as co-chair of the Scarborough Health Coalition and vice-chair of the Warden Woods Community Centre.
Doly completed her graduation from Toronto University and post-graduation from University College of London on Development, Administration and Planning.
