Contempt rule against four secretariesThe High Court has pulled up eight people, including four secretaries for contempt of court after they did not comply with an order over extending the term of an Upazila project implement officer (PIO) in freedom fighters quota.
The court asked the secretaries to the ministries of Liberation War affairs, public administration, finance and disaster management, and chiefs of the disaster management directorate and National Freedom Fighters Councilor, Mymensingh’s deputy commissioner and district relief and rehabilitation officer to respond rule within four weeks.
The bench of justices Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Shahidul Karim delivered issued the rule on Tuesday (Jun 5).
The court also annulled the official ordering replacing the PIO.
Barrister Altaf Hossain, who moved for the petitioner, said that a High Court bench issued an order on May 24 this year after PIO Sirajul Islam Siddiqui of Muktagacha Upazila in Mymensingh filed a writ petition seeking a one-year extension citing the freedom fighters quota.
Despite the court’s order, the authorities replaced Siddiqui, following which the court issued a contempt rule on Tuesday.
