BNP chief Khaleda Zia has filed a bail petition on Tuesday with the High Court over a sabotage case in Cumilla filed under Special Power Act.
Khaleda’s counsel Masud Rana filed the petition with the High Court on Tuesday (June 5).
Masud Rana said that a bench comprising Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman may hold the bail hearing within a day or two.
Police filed the case with Chouddagram Police Station on Feb 3, 2015 over a petrol bomb attack on a bus at Chouddagram on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway during a movement enforced by the BNP-led 20 party alliance.
On May 28, Khaleda filed a bail petition with a Cumilla court, where she was shown arrest in the arson case. The Cumilla court denied the petition and scheduled August 8 for the next hearing.
Khaleda has been in the old jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road since Feb 8, 2018, when a special court sentenced her to five years in prison for embezzling foreign donations made to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
