Suprabhat Paribahan owner Gopal Chandra Karmakar has confessed to his involvement in the incident where one of his buses ran over Bangladesh University of Professionals student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury on Mar 19.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury recorded his statement under section 164 as investigation officer on Monday (Apr 7) after police produced him in it.
After recording the statement, the court sent him to jail.
On Apr 5, a Dhaka court put Gopal Chandra on three days remand in the case filed over the death day after he was arrested from capital’s Mugda area.
On April 2, Suprabhat Paribahan conductor Yasin Arafat and helper Ibrahim made confessional statements before the courts in the case.
On Mar 28, driver Sirajul Islam gave statement under section 164 before the court.
Abrar was run over by Suprobhat Paribahan bus on the morning of Mar 19, as he was trying to cross the road.
It was learned later that the same bus earlier on that morning had struck another pedestrian, leaving her seriously injured and crushed Abrar as it was trying to flee the scene after the first incident.
Abrar’s father Brigadier General (retd) Arif Ahammed Chowdhury filed a case against the driver, his helper, conductor and owner of the bus with the city’s Gulshan police.
