MPO-scheme to cover another 1500 institutions

A general view during a examination at a Dhaka school  FOCUS BANGLA/File PhtotoOver 1500 non-government educational institutions will be included in the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme. The total expenditure for the salary of teachers-officials will be more than Tk 12.28 billion.
In the 2019-20 fiscal, teachers under MPO will get salary and benefits.
Additional secretary of the education department, Jabed Ahmed, said: “A total of 1529 educational institutes will be brought under MPO; after budget, teachers workers of these institutions will become part of MPO after applying online.”
For new MPO inclusion, four conditions need to be fulfilled: age of academic recognition, number of students, number of students taking part in public exam and rate of passing.
The selected ones are the top 1529 which met the conditions. The government’s last inclusion to MPO was in 2010 when 1624 institutions were added to the list.
At present, there are 27810 institutes which are included in MPO and the total number of staff is 496, 362. Every month the government pays Tk 9.42 billion to pay their salary plus benefits.
At this moment, there are 1,242 education institutes in the country with 80,000 teachers and employees, who are not covered under the MPO-scheme.
