Against the backdrop of recent fires in the capital, Brac University (BracU) has undertaken a weeklong program starting Tuesday (Apr 2), to create awareness among students, faculty, and staff on fire safety.
The programme encompasses disseminating information on existing fire fighting arrangements and what should be done in case of fires. It also focuses on campaigns using tools such as notices, SMS, banners, posters etc.
The university has a dedicated nine-member fire fighting team comprising one safety supervisor and eight fire crew, all available 24/7. It has two ground floor fire control points.
BracU arranges fire drills for all at a regular interval. Security guards are skilled in the use of fire extinguishers and in basic fire fighting techniques. The charter of duties of each member along with the names of the floor in-charge/fire warden is announced every week.
“We never compromise with safety issues of our students. BracU has taken necessary steps to mobilise resources in order to ensure fire safety,” said Registrar Foyzul Islam.
