Hearing in Tazreen fire case adjourned till May 8

Representational imageA court in Dhaka has adjourned till May 8 the hearing in the case filed over the Tazreen Fashions fire that killed 111 people and injured scores in 2012.
Dhaka First Additional District and Session Judge Prodip Kumar Roy passed the order after prosecution pleaded for time as no witnesses turned up to testify in the court on Sunday (Apr 7), said court bench assistant Nur Mohamamd told Bangla Tribune.
As many as 111 workers were killed and more than 200 got injured in the fire that engulfed the garment factory in Nishchintopur area in Ashulia on Nov 24, 2012.
Ashulia police station sub-inspector Khairul Islam filed the case for causing loss of lives through negligence the next day.
On Dec 22, 2013, police filed charge sheet against 13 including Tazreen Fashions managing director Mohammad Delwar Hossain and chairman Mahmuda Akhter.
On Sept 3, 2015, a Dhaka court framed charges in the case.
