The government by any means wants to keep Khaleda Zia in the jail, alleged her legal counsel Joynal Abedin.
The lawyer came up with the remark while speaking about the Appellate Division extending the stay order on Khaleda’s bail in two cases in Cumilla on Thursday.
“Being politically motivated, the government wants Khaleda Zia to stay in the prison for long.”
Joynal also said that the Appellate Division had never intervened High Court’s bail order before.
Earlier, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain extended the stay on BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s bail and fixed Jun 24 as the next hearing date.
It also instructed the state counsellors to file a regular leave-to-appeal plea against the High Court's decision.
