BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s condition has improved since she was admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital, say authorities.

“Her health is improving fast as she is taking her medicines on time,” the BSMMU Director AK Mahbubul Hoque told a media call on Thursday (Apr 4).

The former prime minister is suffering from arthritis, diabetes and joint pains, he said.

“She is taking medicines as prescribed by the medical board. Diabetes cannot be controlled in a day, eventually it will be under control,” added BSMMU Director Hoque.

The director also informed that the BNP chairperson is having proper sleep now.

A five-member medical board led by Prof Zilan Miah Sarker of Internal Medicine Department is overseeing Khaleda’s treatment.

On Monday (Apr 1), 73-year-old Khaleda was shifted to the BSMMU hospital from the old Dhaka Central Jail, where she’s serving term for graft as the lone inmate.

A three-time prime minister, Khaleda is serving a total of 17 years of jail term after being convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
