After the fatal fire at Banani’s FR Tower, the city development authority has resumed its drive to inspect safety measures at high-rise buildings for the fourth day.
On Thursday (Apr 4), a team of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) inspected three buildings on Banani’s Road 17 and found two of them were built in violation of the plan submitted to the authorities.
A team from RAJUK Zone-4 led by Director Mamun Mia inspected the buildings until 1pm on Thursday and identified two at risk of fire hazard.
The 28-stoery Ahmed Tower, adjacent to the blaze-hit high-rise, was given clearance for 18 floors. The RAJUK team found that the elevators reach up to the 23rd floor and stairs have to be used for the remaining floors on the top. The building also lacks a proper fire exit.
The RAJUK team found that the 13-storey BTI Park Plaza was cleared for 12 floors. The building, without a proper fire exit, was constructed on residential permits but is being used for commercial purposes.
No major flaws were found at the SMC Tower on the same Road 17.
“However, there are some minors issues and the building authorities have been informed about it,” Mia told Bangla Tribune.
