Three prison guards fired for Yaba consumption

Prison authorities have fired three jail guards after charges of consuming methamphetamine-based drug yaba against them has been found true.
On Mar 8, 2017, a video of prison guards Md Salahuddin, Palash Hossain and Faruq Hossain consuming yaba surfaced on the social media, when a departmental inquiry was opened.
Assistant Inspector General (prisons) Abdullah Al Mamun told Bangla Tribune that the trio was sacked on Tuesday (May 29).
“The three guards of Shariyatpur jail have been sacked for using drugs. The order is effective from Tuesday,” he said before adding that legal proceedings have been opened.
The prison authorities have transferred 14 other guards as punitive measures.
Following the 2017 incident, the then-Shariatpur Senior Jail Superintendent Abu Fatah conducted a probe and found it to be true.
Shariyatpur Jailer Enamul Kabir said, “The guards were posted here then. They were transferred to other prisons later.”
