As many as 9,020 people have been arrested in the last ten days during the crackdown on drugs, says Bangladesh Police.
In a media statement issued on Monday, it, however, did not say anything about the deaths in alleged shootouts during the countrywide raid.
According to reports from Bangla Tribune correspondents across the country, 99 people have been until Tuesday (May 29).
Additional Inspector General Sohely Ferdous of the police headquarters told Bangla Tribune, “We are not providing information on deaths in gunfights. That information is made available from the local police units.”
The statement said that police have started over 7,000 narcotics cases in the last ten days. It also said that nearly over 2 tonne of marijuana, 23kg heroin, 55,000 litres of locally-made spirit have been seized.
The Rapid Action Battalion said in a statement on Monday that 24 people died in ‘gunfights’ between May 4 and 28.
