UN Peacekeepers Day today

The government has planned to organise different programmes including peacekeepers run in the city and a reception for the martyr and injured peacekeepers to commemorate the day.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali inaugurated the peacekeepers run at Old Airport area in the morning.
This year Bangladesh is also celebrating its 30th anniversary of joining the UN peacekeeping operation, says an ISPR press release.
President Abdul Hamid will take part at the reception programme for the peacekeepers at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre later today.
According to ISPR, Bangladeshi peacekeepers have presence in different countries where 5,518 from army, 505 from navy and 526 from airforce are serving. Out of them, 62 are female.
In the last 30 years, a total of 1,32,618 Bangladesh armed forces peacekeepers served in 54 missions in 40 countries where 119 members of the armed forces lost their lives.
According to police headquarters, a total of 18,419 police including 1,184 female served in different peacekeeping operations and while serving 20 killed and 10 injured.
