Calling the government to enact a media workers law, journalists have demanded immediate issuance of the gazette of the ninth wage board.
They also demanded to stop layoff at the different media outlets as well as payment media workers, who have already lost their jobs.
Their demands came at a protest rally in front of the city’s National Press Club on Wednesday (Mar 27). Journalist-Workers-Employee Unity Council organized the progamme pressing its 14-point demand.
Speaking at the rally, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) President Molla Jalal called the media outlets’ owners to abide by the law or “close the media.”
“If the owners don’t stop closing the media we will go for the ‘do or die’ policy,” he warned.
Referring to Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, BFUJ Secretary General Shaban Mahmud said, “Stop taking side of the owners. Otherwise you (minister) will be held accountable to the journalists.”
Shaban Mahmud called all journalists to work under the leadership of the elected laeaders of their community for the betterment of their fellows.
