Narsingdi fugitive killed in Dhaka ‘shootout’

ShafiqA man has been killed in a shootout in Dhaka in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.

The incident was reported in the wee hours of Wednesday (Mar 27) at West Matikata area in the capital’s Vasantek, said RAB.

The deceased has been identified as Shafiq, who RAB said a top criminal listed by Narsingdi police.

“Acting on a tip-off, RAB conducted a raid at a building in the area around 1am on Wednesday. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Shafiq and his accomplices opened fire. In self defence, RAB had to fire back which triggered the shootout,” RAB-11 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Shamsher Uddin told Bangla Tribune.

“Shafiq was hit in the shootout and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead,” said Uddin.

“Two of Shafiq’s accomplices were arrested from the scene,” added the elite force official.

RAB seized three firearms and six rounds of ammunition from the scene.
