Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport authorities have detained a man in possesion of 44 rounds of bullets, which he carried inside without prior declaration.

The detainee has been identified as ABM Mazharul Anam, who is the Darus Salam unit Awami League president.

Airport’s Aviation Security Operation Director Nure Alam Siddique told Bangla Tribune that Anam had 34 rounds of Rifle bullets and 10 rounds of pistol bullets in his possession. He was scheduled to fly on a 10:15am flight to Cox’s Bazar.

“He didn’t declare having the bullets with him while entering the airport. The bullets were found during scanning of his hand luggage,” said Siddique before adding that Anam was later barred from taking the flight.

 “He was brought to the Aviation Security office and later handed over to the Airport police,” said Siddique.

Legal measures against the AL man will follow over the incident, he added.
